Impressed by PARK Eun Tae @ Absolut Uwe

(ソウルでパク・ウンテさんのファンにお会いしたので、珍しく英語の書き込みなぞしてみようかと思います。ドイツでどんな感じだったか韓国の方もご興味あるかもしれませんし = This blog is written normally in Japanese and sometimes in German, since I'm a fan of so called "Wiener (Viennese) Musicals". But this time, I will make an English article, for it's about a Korean musical star I saw in Germany. Some Korean people may be interested how he was there)

"Absolut Uwe" concert in Hamm, Germany on November the 19. 2010 - I decided to take my "summer vacation" then and fly to Germany several months ago, for I'm a member of IUKC, International Uwe Kroeger Club, and the annual fan meeting was planned after that show. It was only shortly noticed that PARK Eun Tae was invited there. In October, he took part in "Levay and Friends" concert in Seoul, in which Uwe was the special guest. I couldn't see that. So it was my first time to hear the korean star live (On CD, I had heard Korean "Mozart!" and liked his sound) It was a pleasant surprise. His songs were of the most beautiful parts on that evening.

He played Rudolf in "Die Shatten werden laenger" ("Elisabeth", direct translation of the title "The Shadows Become Longer"), in Korean and German, though he sang Lucheni in Seoul. I only understood one word in the korean part, but I saw that he expressed the intelligent but isolated, nervous crown prince excellently. When the refrain came, his German pronunciation had almost no accent, as far as I could hear (much better than in his greeting, sorry). He surely has musician's ears, I thought. Uwe's and his voices harmonized very beautifully.

He also sang a solo from "Mozart!", "Wie wird man seinen Shatten los?" (that means "How can you be away from your own shadows?" or so) in Korean. Again, I knew just one word ("how"), but I was quite impressed.

I imagined, in the "Mitsuko Concert" in Vienna 2005, which I sadly couldn't see, INOUE Yoshio, a young japanese star, was maybe seen like that. He also sung Rudolf with Uwe in two languages and a Wolfgang song (Ich bin Musik) in Japanese.

Mr. Park was also in the autograph session and the fan meeting. So I could talk with him for a little while. He was very friendly and I became his fan. I determine to visit "Mozart!" next May. I've heard that he will be one of the title role actors again (It was performed this spring as the first "Wiener Musical" in Korea).
He seemed to be pleased as well, to have some east Asian audience in Germany. There were no other but us, maybe three or so from Japan.

Too bad he only sung twice in "Absolut Uwe" tour (Vienna on the 15. 10. and Hamm) and there will be no recording to be released. Some German Uwe's fans also said so. Though I had a wonderful seat in Munich two days later, he wasn't there...

As I asked him in Hamm if he was going to play Lucheni in Seoul, he answered he was not sure yet and it may also be "Tod" (the Death). Korean version Musicals often appoint three or four stars as main casts. It's quite possible, I guess. His wish was to play "Tod", he said.

Well, "Tod" is of course the most beautiful, beloved character in that story. And he'll be a very nice "Tod". But Lucheni is also a very important and challenging figure. Sometimes even treated as the male main role. I would be happy to see his Lucheni, too, since I missed that in Seoul. I've read many good voices of japanese visitors to the concert.

What I also talked with him was about "Tanz der Vampire" (The Dance of the Vampires) he has seen and was fascinated in Vienna, according to a news from Vienna Stages Association. He also told us he was amazed and impressed and the possibility if it will be played in Seoul was 50: 50. As I asked who he'd like to perform, he answered "I wish to play Dracula". So, von Krolock. He could suit Alfred, the most important young character also very well, I think, but he wants the main role. He has good ambitions.
